| Original LaserWriter refurbishment |
Posted by: ScutBoy on 2020-11-11 14:10:51 I have an original LaserWriter (well, actually a LaserWriter Plus) that needs some help. Seems like the pickup mechanism has turned to goo. When powered on, it tries to pick up a sheet for the self-test page, but there just ends up being amber goo on the top sheet, and - thankfully - it doesn't get sucked any further into the machine.
I need to go find a service manual, I guess, to see how major the surgery is to take this guy apart, and figure out if there are reasonable replacement parts (or hacks) available to fix this and anything else I find.
If anyone has been down this road before and can offer any tips or encouragement, please feel free to chime in!

Posted by: oldappleguy on 2020-11-11 18:53:47 I found the pickup rollars new in service package. 970_1011 They look brand new, but they are sticky to the touch. I wonder if you could coat them to stop them from deteriorating.

They simply deteriorate with age and as far as I am aware, no you cant really protect it unless you want to seal it in a vacuum.

Dont these use Canon or Lexmark mechanisms? The original series LaserWriter uses a Canon marking engine.
