Power Mac G4 Cube internal power cable, I need help
Posted by: ferranrc on 2020-11-08 04:10:05 Hi, I have the possibility to acquire a G4 cube for a very good price, with the Studio Display, keyboard and speakers. Aesthetically it is very good. The problem is that the power cable that is connected to the DC-to-Dc board is cut, and the board power connector is missing. Also the IDE cable and the airport card cable are cut, but I think this is not a problem, because I can find a new IDE cable, and I don't need the Airport card. The seller tells me that when he bought it they were already cut, I don't know why the first owner cut them, but they are all 3 cut in half. Is it possible to get spare parts for the power cable and the DC-to-DC board connector? Where could I get them? The only reference I have is that it's a J2 connector (4 pin) I've done a search but can't find anything ... Thank you very much for the help!

See here: I think these are the cables OP is referring to: OP: I'm not sure what connector that is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still possible to find one. If not, it should be possible to splice the wire back together (if you have both ends). If not, you might want to figure out the pin spacing on the connector and solder down something that you can find the male and female components for, then fashion your own wire.

Yes, these are the cables I'm referring to. The left one is the power cable that is connected to the DC-to-Dc board. The power cable (4 cables) is cut, and both the end connector and the board connector are missing. I will try to find a replacement, if not, I will have to try to solder down something that I can find the male and female components, to create a new own wire. Thank you very much!
Posted by: Byrd on 2020-11-08 13:00:53 Hi ferranrc, Reading between the lines I'd say the "first owner" cut the cables as a rudimentary way of disabling the whole machine to avoid prying eyes, but the "second owner" found it for free and here you are 🙂 Unless you can find a junker Cube G4 - and they are around - I'd be resoldering the DC cable - it's only four wires. The short 80 pin IDE cable shouldn't be tricky to replace.
