Recomend a game to me (Color Classic)
Posted by: mraroid on 2016-03-12 10:32:19
Don't shoot me, but I have not played any computer games.  If I can get my color classic to boot again, I think it is time to install a color game.

My CC has a CF card in it rather than the SCSI hard drive.  I am running 7.6.  The CF card is divided into two partitions.  Each partition is just shy of 2GBs.  My CC is running in the original screen mode of 512×384 pixels.  I have a 575 logic board in it. The logic board has the math co processor chip installed.

Can someone recommend a color game that would run under this configuration?  I think I would like space games, but I will try anything.

Thanks

A more relevant spec would be how much memory is installed.

I read about a game called  "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis".  Color,  old (1992), 68K.  I believe one can find it on a floppy or on line.

Have you tried this one on your color classic?

From that list -- I always had a good time with Crystal Quest, and any game with "Sim*" in its name. There was also an adventure game of some sort called Scarab of Ra and I believe Oregon Trail should run at that resolution. I know those run on the 12-inch color monitors when connected to an LC.

The biggest challenge is that I don't think you'll find much that really uses horsepower of an '040 (much less an FPU) and runs on a 512*384 display. For example, an '040 should run Marathon (and Myst) but I don' tknow if 512*384 will.

Creatures

Not so much a game as an artificial life environment, with fuzzy critters that hatch out of eggs, grow, learn, interact, and respond to training.

If you're looking for something which runs in 512 x 384 AND benefits from the 040, SimCity 2000 is your best bet. I used to run it on my LC, where it was a bit sluggish. It's a great game (and highly addicting), offering far more than the original SimCity. Even if you've had the game for 20 years, you'll still be looking for new challenges to accomplish or different ways to do things.

I recommend Lemmings for the fun factor.

I'm seeing from that list a few need the 040 and I really need to make that 640x480 upgrade

Thanks

Add another vote for SC2K.  Things can get interesting when you try and build a city with a difficult map and a 10K bond.
