| DayStar Turbo601 for IIci? | |

The seller isn't sure what model it's for, and I am not turning up much on the web about how to determine whether or not it will work in my IIci. Do any of you have any advice? Thanks, folks. | Posted by: Bolle on 2020-10-30 23:57:42 There are supposed to be different versions and the one I have got came out of a IIvx where it was working just fine. That same card works just as well in my IIci and IIsi. Not sure what the actual difference between the different versions really is. | |

I'm pretty sure it's for the 030 PDS, but I guess if it doesn't work in my IIci I can figure out which Mac II it's actually for and try to resell it at a little bit of a loss. Thanks guys. | |

Does the cache still work when you have the machine in 68030 mode via the control panel, or will it run dog slow like a IIci without a cache card installed? I assume I'll have to switch back to 030 mode to run AU/X. Are there any socket-level type upgrades that could potentially replace the 601 with a 604 (I think they are bus-compatible, anyway)? I mean it would be kinda silly in a way to run even the 603 at such a low clock speed, but the increased pipelining and such might still give a significant performance improvement, perhaps even 2x. | |

The 040 cards were called the PowerPro, not Turbo. Apple also rebranded those as the Apple Power Macintosh Upgrade Card, though they only sold the variant that ran at a maximum of 66MHz. It was clock dubbled from whatever the 040 ran at, so only in machines like the Q800 would it run at the full speed. Which is why I moved mine from a Q700 to a Q800, besides the fact the 700's not currently working. Easy way to tell before you get it, the '040 PDS PowerPro will have a much thinner black connecter while the '030 PDS is a thicker connector and (at least on the ones I've seen) white in color. | |
