G4 Cube Ethernet problem
Posted by: paush on 2020-10-08 00:35:50
Hi All,

I’ve recently joined the G4 Cube club.  This forum looks great and I’ve already done lots of digging through informative and useful info!

I’m having a problem with the Ethernet port in the Cube, which I suspect is a hardware fault, but figured I’d run it past on here in case anybody has any suggestions.

If I let it detect the speed automatically, or force it to 100Mbps then it seems to hiccup/pause frequently and in the case of Software Update, it even gives up.

With an SFTP transfer on my LAN, I can see the speed climbs and then drops rapidly. It then pauses for a few seconds and tries to climb again.

With the Cube out of its casing, I noticed that the internal green LED on the Ethernet card goes off and then comes back on shortly afterwards whenever the hiccup/pause occurs.

This happens on Tiger, Leopard and also Linux.

If I force the connection to 10Mbps then all is fine.  No hiccups, the green light stays lit and I get a constant but slow as expected connection.

I’ve tried PRAM resets and pressing the button inside in Cube, all to no avail.

Any input you could offer?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.
