TeleDisk: disk transfer utility
Posted by: Dog Cow on 2020-09-09 05:04:51
With the TeleDisk application you can transfer entire disk images, as well as individual files, from your classic Mac to a newer computer using an RS-232 serial connection. TeleDisk can also transfer the data from a Macintosh Hard Disk 20. The disk images received from TeleDisk are immediately ready to be used with mini vMac emulator. TeleDisk is available now.

I use TeleDisk all the time to make backups. It is now a standard part of my work-flow.

This is awesome! @Dog Cow, did you develop this? If so, well done!

Can you describe the serial hardware involved? I thought we only had RS-422 on these.

Yes, I started writing this application in March 2019 because I needed a way to easily transfer disks and files to a modern computer from the oldest compact Macs.

The serial ports on all Macs work with both RS-232 and RS-422 signaling. On the other side, if you have a USB to serial adapter such as a Keyspan USA-28X or FTDI USB-to-serial, then all you need is a correctly-wired serial cable. I use a standard Apple ImageWriter II or StyleWriter printer cable.

If you need any more information on the serial connection, just ask and I can give more details.

@Dog Cow Frog Design, eh?
Guess so.  😛  The story on that little guy is that I found it stuck on the outside of a window. I have a whole sequence of photos of this little person, clinging to the side of the Mac 512K with his sticky toes, and perched on top by the vents. I have this huge library of unusual photos I've taken, and I just dig through and pull one out to suit my needs or whims.

I shipped out the first batch of TeleDisk orders today. They are serial numbered, so if you'd like to get a low serial number, order sooner than later!
