| SCSI2SD Performance Issue? |
Posted by: mfinn on 2020-07-26 04:37:33 I recently acquired a SCSI2SD v5.5 (external) to replace the aging and sometimes nonfunctional HD in my Classic II. I backed up my drive to SD and have been successfully booting from and using it. One odd thing I notice is in the Dark Castle games. When booting from the SCSI2SD, none of the animations or sprites of the protagonist are drawn. I hear the sounds of him running to and fro, but no animation. This is evident right from the title screen of Beyond Dark Castle, there is no guard patrolling and the clouds don't roll in. However, if I boot from the HD and run the games from the SCSI2SD, everything works normally. The speed of OS startup and other applications doesn't seem to be affected. Has anyone run into this or have an idea of what is going on?

Posted by: mfinn on 2020-07-26 04:59:11 I'm assuming the v5.5 does that via software? SCSI 0 is the HD and SCSI 1 is the scsi2sd configured drive it is booting from.

Posted by: cruff on 2020-07-26 10:27:22 On my 5.0a board, you physically remove the terminators. On a 5.1 or 6.0 board, you can do it via scsi2sd-util. On the 5.5 board, the web site says it is permanently enabled. http://www.codesrc.com/mediawiki/index.php/SCSI2SD#Technical_Specifications
Note there is a comment for the 5.5 board:
Requires SCSI host that supplies terminator power on pin 25 of the DB25 socket I don't recall if all Macs supplied the terminator power.

I don't recall if all Macs supplied the terminator power. As far as I know, the Plus is the only Mac known to not have termination power.
