Dead g4 Titanium
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2016-02-25 20:22:50
I snagged another G4 Ti Powerbook recently and it is DEAD. Pushing the power button does nothing when plugged into the wall or when using a battery that has charge (from my working Ti). Do these things have a fuse or maybe a common failure point to look for?

I am pretty sure the power connector is on a sub-board. And I think the solder joints on it can crack. Like the Pismo.

Did you disconnect the PRAM battery? It's under the optical drive.

Will try both of those tomorrow. A simple solder joint fix would be cool.

Yup, just a dead PRAM battery. The unit fired up after I disconnected it. G4-500 512MB RAM 20GB HD.

Thanks

Yeah, that's the reason most are "dead" these days.

Very pleased this was posted! Just got a powerbook G4 off ebay for £15 (Its not in the best shape). Turns out it was just the pram battery that was dead, unplugged it and it boots!

Now to sort out the cosmetic side of things.....
