"New" 68-pin VRAM modules?
Posted by: landoGriffin on 2020-07-02 03:15:06
I recently got my Quadra 840av working (best dumpster find ever!). I'd love to upgrade the VRAM to 2MB. Looking at the VRAM modules on eBay, they just look like a couple SRAM ICs with some bypass caps. Has anyone ever tried making their own VRAM PCB?

I am sure you could make them if you had compatible chips.

I used to hoard the VRAM when I was still acquiring machines and even took apart some 1MB PCI PPC ones for PC video card upgrades when they were dirt cheap.

VRAM for LC and Quadra are different and you have 256K and 512K varieties.

Just recently there was a thread about recreating the 6100 PDS card riser, to allow an HPV card to be installed. The OP also was interested in recreating the 68-pin VRAM sticks, as those cards use them too. However, I believe the problem was with sourcing the appropriate RAM ICs.
