| G5 cases? |
Posted by: Zhdoo on 2020-05-20 23:15:10 I have a damaged but working Quad and want to move the components into an undamaged case. Are all G5 cases the same or do I need a specific one?
Thanks,
gary

Posted by: demik on 2020-05-21 00:14:01 There is at least two different cases that I know of. PCIe vs PCI-X boards. The last ones having one more USB port or something.
Don't have access to them now, but the difference is mostly in the rear panel.

Posted by: Zhdoo on 2020-05-21 22:36:44 Thanks for the reply. I looked on EveryMac and the A1117s have 4 USB ports (1 front, 3 back), while all of the other models have only 3 (1 front, 2 back). I doubt I would have noticed that.

Unlikely is the likeliest answer. It would be easier just to find a good case for the model wanted.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2020-05-22 10:22:08 Actually there are other differences between the PCI/PCI-X and PCIE cases, the bluetooth and wireless antennas on the PCIE are internal (that large metal strip to the side of the 2 cooling fans is the antenna and a easy indicator to what type the machine is.

Posted by: Zhdoo on 2020-05-24 21:09:03 Thanks for the replies. This is my first G5 so the additional information is appreciated. I'll keep my eye out for a dead A1117/A1177 at a good (cheap) price. One will turn up eventually.
