32 bit vs. 36 bit Cache Chips for PPC750, G3
Posted by: trag on 2020-04-29 13:53:21
I've seen the 36 bit wide cache chips used on a number of PPC upgrade cards.   Does anyone know if the four parity bits are actually being used, or was it just convenient for the manufacturers to buy the X36 chips for some reason?   The pin out is the same, so if one has a board that only needs the X32 bit chips, there is no reason the X36 bit chips couldn't be substituted if they're cheaper at the moment or have better availability.
