Hi guys, I hope it’s the right section of the forum. I’ve just got a “basically brend new” QuickTake 150 with the original and complete box.
long story short, I received the QuickTake yesterday, I inserted 3 AA batteries (tried with NiHM 1.2V, also Alkaline 1.5V even if Apple says alkaline are not compatible, I see users using alkaline AA with success) I slide open the lens cover to power it up... nothing, nada. It won’t power on. Tried multiple times with different 3x AA pair of batteries, nothing.
I really need help, is there any advice/something to try for making it working? :/ * I bought for my Apple collection but I would also love to use it!

EDIT 2: and I forget to say, but seller says he try the camera to see if it works using 3x AA 1.2V NiHM HR6 DX1500, the ones I also try to use without any success, unfortunately...

1,2 v batteries won't work fine.
Are you sure contacts are clean and polarity is correct ?
You can also try with a Powerbook PSU, will avoid a problem on the battery compartment.

I never seen the circuitry of one of these cameras, but I am curious if they are full of SMD caps just like anything else from that Era.

The Newtons are affected by failing capacitors, so I'd have to think that the QuickTake would be affected too. Though I would think the PCB would be easier to access on the QuickTake than the Newton.

Hi there,
I came here with exactly the same questions, albeit for a QuickTake 100. I was hoping to find maybe a really old thread with some useful advice, and I certainly didn't think I would find such a new thread! I scored a great looking QuickTake 100 on a local auction site, without any accessories. Just like yours @Riccardo, mine won't power on with known good batteries nor with a PowerBook AC adapter. Searching the web for help, I found this 2014 thread: https://www.thinkclassic.org/viewtopic.php?id=277 referring to disassembling a QuickTake 150 with capacitors issues. The pictures are sadly missing, and the guy says it isn't easy to take the thing apart. He lists the caps needed, though. Maybe I'll give it a try when I have a chance!

I am trying to get my QuickTake 150 up and running and can share some of my experiences. First of all, check to see if the gray and purple wires have power from batteries or an external power supply. If not, check fuse FU291 (if battery powered) and also diode D291, which protects against power polarity reversal.
Then check the output voltages of the modular power supply. It should generate a lot of output voltages.
-12V, -5V, +5V, +15V.
Unfortunately, on my board it generates nothing. I've soldered it out and will be looking into the schematic. I'll write an update if I get any results. | Posted by: alk0v on 2024-05-29 14:31:41
