Macintosh Color Classic in another case...
Posted by: mc9625 on 2016-02-16 14:29:02
Could it be theoretically possible to put a Macintosh Color Classic into a Macintosh Classic case?

I've seen a lot of monstrosity on the web: macintosh plus stuffed with mac mini or other mini atx motherboard, or macintosh classic transformed into iPad dock and so on.

Now, I really hate the look of Macintosh Color Classic. Can't say exactly why. So, could it be possible to stuff a color classic into a classic (or other compact macintosh?)

Please don't shoot... it was only a curiosity.

Thanks

Nope. the CRT is too long.

Never say "DIE!"

But TechKnight has a point. And thus, the analog board is also longer as is the logic board along with the CRT. Plus you have some frame end edge board connector components you need to deal with. If you can build an extender between the front bezel and the rear "bucket" by 3d printing and put all those pieces together, it could work but you also need to extend the metal frame as well to match that extension and be able to screw the case shut.

If you are willing to put in this kind of work, then it can be done.

I'm right there with you on the oddball styling of the CC, hate it. However the ugly's not just skin deep. CC lovers have spent much time and effort over many years shoe-horning whatever they can into the CC to upgrade it so as to turn it into a "useful" computer. The only practical use for a CC MoBo is for downgrading a Mystic to its original, pitiful state.LOL!

I liked the cc, it was a lovely made machine, had nice curves and the screen was epic compared to the blank and white one in my se/30, ok so the cc is a bit tall and its a sit back and beg angle but i think makes it quite sweet. Looks are a personal thing though. I think the classic is the best looking mini mac with its clean lines, not as happy with my se/30 front panel design its a bit 1980 sci-fi prop

No it isnt, its a clasic 1980 sci-prop which is why i brought it lol but still think the classic/classic 2 is the best looking classic mac made from a design point of view 🙂
