Very Early M0110 Keyboard?
Posted by: RuneRider on 2020-04-16 16:09:04
I've acquired an original Macintosh system and am confused by the serial number of the keyboard. The machine is week 3 of 1984, but the keyboard is week 2 of 1983. This seems odd to me. I also don't know how to decode the production number which is showing as 12061. I cannot believe that there were 12,000+ keyboards manufactured so early.

Any information would be appreciated.

Are you sure the keyboard follows the same scheme?

Yes. The "G302" is the same as what an "F402" would be on the Macintosh. Production Location, Year, Week of Production.

What was the serial, if any, of the Twiggy Macs? It's possible the keyboard could have been done far in advance.

Me neither. I think that serial number format is a little different, and that keyboard was more likely manufactured in December 1983.

Open it and check the date codes on the ICs.

Maybe like this one. It's stated to be a pre-production M0110. I do however doubt they made 3000+ of them.

I've seen week 52 of 1983 Macintosh units and keyboards. the serial scheme for both is very similar (F352 for the Mac & G352 for the keyboard). Another system I own which was purchased together has matching date codes on the Mac, the keyboard & the mouse. I'll check the date codes on the ICs as soon as the system is in my hands. It's 3 hours away at the moment. I have complete faith that the first four digits have the same meaning. I'm just trying to figure out the production number.
