Print to HP Laserjet directly via serial (IIci or Mac Plus)
Posted by: ctarstar on 2020-04-13 00:45:30
I'm looking to connect either my IIci or Mac Plus to my HP Laserjet 4050 directly via serial. Is this possible to do without any special drivers? If so, does anyone have a cable pinout they can share? I've tried a few variations and not having any luck. I'm using the mini-DIN8 port with the printer marking, I'm picking 'LaserWriter 300/LS' in the Chooser but nothing comes across. (test printing from Print Shop) I've tried a few different pinouts based on information I've found here and here. The serial port on the Laserjet 4050 is a DB9 female. Any pointers to an end-to-end cable diagram are greatly appreciated, as is any correction of my understanding or misunderstanding of printer software. I'm on OS7.5.3 on the IIci and 6.0.8 on the Plus. Thank you!

This driver might work: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-laserjet-4000-printer-series/25474/swItemId/lj-5646-7

I doubt it will work without.
