Starup Bomb "Code Fragment Could Not Be Prepared"
Posted by: LCARS on 2020-04-01 13:22:44
After a whole weekend of getting my long-dormant 8600 up and running with 7.6.1, all my programs, and tweaks, I installed a Texas Instruments calculator connection program. After the first restart, it was fine except that it wouldn't open the TI folder. Drive access was intense then nothing (frozen). After rebooting, I continue to get the boot bomb, "Code Fragment Could Not Be Prepared" <Restart>

Booting with extensions off works. I deleted everything related to that program that I could find but still, bomb at start up (w/extensions). Its been a while since I was truly System 7 savvy. I don't recall ever seeing this before. Are there any alternatives besides initializing and starting over again?

It sounds like maybe something not related to the Texas Instruments program got corrupted somehow.  Are you able to fresh install 7.6.1? I think that might fix it.

I appreciate your reply, CC_333. I was able to rectify it  by reinstalling the System Folder. I had actually forgotten that you can do that without disturbing programs, files, etc.

I never did figure out what caused it. I removed anything related to the TI program but still had that error. I chose not to try again with that program. It was a good lesson in not getting too giddy (or trusting) with all the classic software that is so easily available now.
