Help transferring programs to Mac from Linux - how to make executable
Posted by: stormy on 2020-03-22 13:11:26
Hi guys,

I recently contacted the author of Snak (IRC client for 68k macs) Because the last version to work on 68k was v3.2.1, but was not available online. Macgardens version was incorrect when extracted, same for macrepo. The kind author sent me v3.2.1 zipped. I tried extracting the zip on my Mac with stuffit 5.5, but it said the zip had an invalid header. I tried re-zipping on Linux but same issue again. I then tried a tar.gz, stuffit extracted this happily but the files are not executable. Can anyone let me know how to make them executable?

I'll attach the Snak 3.2.1 version as the author said I can share it.

uncompressing on Linux will lose the forked status of the files and only recompress part, unfortunately - and that destroys executables. Do you have an OSX machine you can unzip your zip file on instead? that'll preserve forks - I just tested your file and it worked - then transferred the file to a Classic Mac where all files work too.

If that doesn't work for you, I've got 3.2.1 as a .sit here. You may not be able to double click this file on your 68k, but if you drop it manually on the stuffit expander icon there it should decompress just fine
