Portable 26-pin monitor cable broken
Posted by: ktkm on 2020-02-29 12:55:23
The flaky and stripy video was a broken 26-pin LCD monitor cable. Has anyone had this problem, and how was it fixed? Where would you find this kind of cable today and what is it called?

Solved many times.

Common problem.

You should create your own cable, keeping the two connectors and using a modern hard drive cable as a substitute.

I see. Are the connectors made possible for realignment? What type of new hard drive cable are we talking about? Much appreciated 🙂

ultra-ata style PATA cable. (not so modern anymore) will work here.

youll have to carefully pull the connectors apart and recrimp.

At least its not the backlit version, otherwise you would be hosed.

What’s the deal with the backlit one? I’ve not seen one.

Love the word ’recrimp’ -- thanks! Now I’m off to find the PATA-cable and start learning the art of crimping! 🙂

I managed to open the connector that goes into the LCD-panel, but logicboard connector is a mystery to me.

Success! But it took some force.

Oh, and I found the ‘modern’ ribbon cable ;-)  The clerk at ‘MHz Data’(a vintage PC-store) didn’t even wanna charge me for it!

My first re-crimping and it worked out alright! Thank you @bibilit and @techknight.

Nice work!  Must have been a proud moment to see your hard work paid off with a beautiful display 🙂

Thanks! Two weeks ago I had a stripy LCD and didn’t know what crimping was. Hope my simple documentation can be of some help in the future. 🙂

;-)

If only we could do the backlit cables this way.

I know the chinese offer flat flex cable services, so maybe I or Bolle could redesign the cable and have the Chinese run it. Just move your connectors over from the old cable to the new.
