| Classic AB Rev.1 vs. Rev.2 Cap differences? |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2020-02-28 20:39:09 Simply put: I know that Classic Rev, A and Rev. B boards are not compatible with the two different earlier and later style CRTs. The Classic II I picked up is a later model that has a B board. I figured only the connector was different. Turns out that is not the case: about four capacitors are of different values, and some of those are not even the same listed number. For instance, CL1 on a Rev. A board is 10 µf, 50 V, whereas on the Rev. B it is 1000 µf, 25 V. Big difference, not just beefier component. CP31 from a Rev. A...doesn't even exist on a Rev. B. These are just two examples. I had no idea they were that different.
As an aside question, those film capacitors, CL6 and I believe CL7...anyone know their values? I get no hits from the writing on them and am not sure if they need to be replaced (my ESR meter is useless if I don't know what the ideal value is).

Posted by: superjer2000 on 2020-03-02 21:44:57 This is what I used to recap a number of Classic and Classic II boards. In my collection I had two different boards what I called Type A has the larger molex yoke connector and Type B has the smaller connector.

I don't replace the film capacitors but I do resolder the yoke connector on the AB plus the connector that goes to the logic board. If the yoke plug has any traces of being burnt, I replace it.

Posted by: LaPorta on 2020-03-03 06:54:41 I don’t replace the films, but just wanted to know for future reference.
Also, where do you get male and female connectors for the yoke and the board at the back of the CRT? I want to make extensions for these.

Also, once you find one connector on Digi-Key's website, if you look lower on the table they provide, there's a link for compatible or mating connectors. It leads to a list of connectors that mate with the one you're currently viewing.

Posted by: LaPorta on 2020-03-03 13:50:20 I know someone must have already found them...if they would reply...

Posted by: superjer2000 on 2020-03-03 17:57:22 I’ve got the part numbers for the Type A (also used on plus, se etc). I can post when I’m home.
For type b should be pretty easy to find. Every molex connector I’ve seen had the part number on it. Get out the magnifying glass and it will be there.

To confirm we're talking about the 4 pin connector from the yoke to the analog board This is incredibly useful information, thankyou very much. I was wondering about this the other day.

Looks like the info came through from Superjet2000 anyway.
Ah, here's the link I meant to include: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/55194-6100-7100-8100-9150-pds-connector/&do=findComment&comment=604079
