Best video card for 500 MHz Sawtooth?
Posted by: IlikeTech on 2020-01-08 19:54:34
I'm looking for the best card with OS9 accelleration as well as 10.4 for my 500 MHz Sawtooth.  I use a DVI monitor, and it would be best if the card could output 1920x1200.  What are my options?  Probably not going to play too many games, and I don't have a preference between ATI or nVidia.

Thanks!

If you don't plan on playing games, in OS 9 2D performance will be about the same across the board (although OS X of course will appreciate more performance).  A Mac Radeon 7500 or Mac Geforce 2 MX would be good choices.  Both provide good 2D performance, passable 3D/OS X acceleration and are both cheap and easy to find.  There are better cards above this but you'll lose OS 9 driver support.

I use the Radeon 9000 on my Sawtooth.  It has graphics acceleration in OS9 and runs great in Tiger.

Ditto. The card is pretty cheap as well. I *was* using my Geforce 3 in my Sawtooth (mine's a 450mhz), but I got another Cube, so it went in there. That card, however, is a unicorn these days, and is VGA/ADC only.

The 9000's are the easiest and cheapest to find but a Radeon 7000 Mac edition would work as well.
