$35 Garage Sale iBook, iPod, and Netbook
Posted by: CompuNurd on 2014-10-08 10:18:15
I was on vacation and couldn't help but notice a community garage sale sign on the way to the hotel. I went there the next day, and as usual, I always ask people if they have any old computers or electronics they want to sell. One lady goes inside and comes back 10 minutes later with two laptops! One was an iBook G3 and the other was an ASUS netbook. She goes back inside to find the charger for the netbook, and comes out with an iPod classic 3rd generation, as well as a bag full of adapters and other iPod accessories. $35 and a promise to erase her data, I put it in the car and go back to the hotel. I took the items and put them in a black trash bag, tied it shut, and packed it between some clothes for protection.

Once I unpacked, I took it to the garage and broke open the bag, cleaned everything, and set it aside. I didn't feel like messing with the laptops yet, but from what I tested in her garage, the iBook screen doesn't light up, but you can see the image, so it might just be the backlight. The netbook fired right up, I didn't see any issues with that. The iPod had the low battery light, so I assumed it worked to some degree. I plugged in the iPod when I got home, and it works fine!

I am probably going to sell the netbook. From what I have seen, these things bring about $40. The iPod is almost flawless, so I will swap it with my other 3rd gen, since there are several scuffs on it. I might try to fix the iBook, or sell it here since I already have one.

Nice find, 35 $ is a steal.

Especially with the way Classic prices have risen over the last month.

It turns out the netbook is worth about $80 on one of those sites that gives you an instant offer for electronics. Profit + iPod and iBook to collection = happy.

i'm always weary of those sites, they tend to revise their offer down after they have received their item

Some of them are pretty good, but do your research before you send it

sellusalaptop.com buys most of the stuff that the other websites don't, and I have used them a few times without any issues. I have also used quicklaptopcash.com. They have several complaints going against them, but I haven't had any issues. cashforlaptops.com doesn't buy any of the stuff I have, they just want to recycle it for free.

If you have used them before then you'll probably be fine 🙂

Just every time i hear someone talk about those i have to interject with that not of caution

Thats a pretty small screen, even for a netbook

Looks like the original Asus 901. Is that an Atom or an underclocked Celeron?
