Hi,
I’m trying to secure my SE/30 during a large conference, and I can’t afford guided security. So I wanted to make use of the "security lock" / chain symbol hole thing on the back of the Mac. But I couldn’t source a plug that goes in there.
I found online a photo of that security lock thing – does anyone know the dimensions so that I can try to build my own? Or is there even a shop where I can still buy these?

Yeah I posted that over on eBay finds. I have zero use for that thing but almost want to buy it anyway! I remember seeing those in the wild back in the day.

thanks for the links to eBay. I checked it before, the seller charges ~30$ postage for the lock items, plus VAT, that’ll be rather expensive. The other link is a disk lock system, not an anti-theft-system.

Not recommended. These locks were designed when Torx screws were rare. Anyone with the right Torx driver and enough time will take the bucket from the frame and leave you with just the shell. IF you think the environment is that insecure It would be better to just take the machine with you at all times and never let it out of sight. (Of course if you really want to use that lock you I guess you could handcuff yourself to the machine with a three foot chain. 😉 Haha, that would create a lot of attention, which might be good or bad.) Anyway, those locks are now obsolete and offer very little to no protection to a determined thief. Be safe, back up all your data and just use the handle. Peace.

I’m assuming OP is just looking for a little peace of mind in which case I think the security lock is a fine solution. Sure, a determined thief could walk off with half an SE/30 after a few minutes of highly visible determination, but if the goal is to deter a casual opportunist from walking off with a cool piece of vintage kit, the security lock should do fine.

Same as any security measure if they really want to steal it with determination and balls they will. About 10 years ago at the British motor show a team of people in vw overalls stripped a VW Golf (vw rabbit in usa) to a shell in front of millions of people and they were purely thieves, never got court. I digress though, i agree it should be fine for disparaging the average thief.
