Posted by: Solvalou on 2019-09-27 11:13:26 So I found a IIcx for sale on the 'Bay and it was recently listed. At first I thought it looked pretty junk, and since I had a IIci, I wasn't that interested. However, as I looked through the photos I could see potential. So the only bad parts are it had no HD and it was listed as "faulty" but had a load of extras with it. From what I could see I could tell it was fairly upgraded, all the RAM slots were used, there was a bunch of cables, a Keyboard II, a BnC network card (yawn), but what did peak my interest was a suspicious looking card that was in a NuBus slot. The photos were fairly crap but it looked very Radiusish (for lack of a better word)! That alone was worth a punt I thought. I think it was about a tenner as a start price, but I figured I'd try low-balling an offer. So I sent one that worked out at £25 posted, and it was accepted. So fast forward a few days and it's literally arrived today and well, see for yourselves (below)! I believe it's a Radius Thunder IV. Not sure how this stacks up to the rest of the range but I got a couple of them already (LeMans GT & PrecisionColor Pro 24). Sadly it doesn't have the daughter card, and I can only assume it's a lower-end one as there's no VRAM chips on the back side. Still, beggars can't be choosers! Will have to give the IIcx a test and see if she powers on at least!

Unless the daughter card was removed at some point, that one was probably sold as a Radius Thunder 24GT, which is the same card as the Radius Thunder IV 1152, but without the DSP daughter board. A very nice find.

A very nice find. Thanks for the info. That's cleared alot up. It's a pity it didn't come with it. I can only imagine that daughter card is probably nigh-impossible to attain on its own. Sales for the IIcx, I've just given the board a wash, looks very good condition. No immediate signs of cap corrosion, however I think some of the caps look a little iffy around the edges. Not surprised by this, or unexpected. Frankly I'd be more surprised if I didn't see it. The best news by far is there's no battery nastiness! :cheesy: The memory seems to total to 8MB in 8x 1MB sticks. (Half 100ns, half 70ns). PSU and floppy drive appear good too, though needs a good clean-out, the latter especially. The casework is all good too, other than the usual yellowing. Still nicer than most I've seen. Overall, I will be fairly surprised if it doesn't fire up but it's far too early to know right now!
