| Is Pippin Worth Getting |
Posted by: Joad on 2016-01-27 07:20:18 Hello guys, I am looking for a console to buy. I mean an old console, is Pippin worth getting or should I get a IIGS instead.

You would be better off with a II/II+/IIe with a serial card or a IIc with it's built-in serial ports and any Apple II Telnet program will do. If space/size is an issue, the IIc would the best option as it would take the least amount of space on the desk. The IIgs takes up a lot of room even compared to a Apple II+

The Pippin has a very limited software library, very few of which are fun to play. It might be interesting to find and acquire some of the more rare Pippin related accessories and complete a collection that not many people are aware of, but really, the console by itself isn't too interesting. Of course, IMHO.

A Telnet console? A gaming console. (The Pippin is one)

A gaming console. (The Pippin is one) That makes more sense now. And yes, I still stand with my Apple decision... Even a Vic20 would be better...

Posted by: commodorejohn on 2016-01-27 12:44:07 As a general rule, the answer to "should I get a mid-'90s CD console that didn't come from Sony, Sega, or NEC?" is "not unless you really like tedious, poorly-acted FMV games." (Or, if it's the CD-i, "not unless you want to pay way too much money to experience some of the funniest things made by man.") And with the Pippin specifically, can't you run those titles on a Mac anyway?
