I have an Asante SCSI/Ethernet adaptor on my LC III (System 7.1, Open Transport 1.3). I can get TCP/IP mostly working except no DNS services at all.
I am using DHCP and that seems to be working fine -- it correctly gets IP/Subnet/Router and DNS Server configured. I have installed Fetch and Netscape 2.02. Both work just fine with IP address destinations but can't get DNS to work at all. I have also manually configured the TCP/IP to use 8.8.8.8 (Googles public DNS server) with no luck.
I am at wits end -- having tried every permutation of other drivers, DNS servers, etc.
Is this a basic incompatibility between the TCP/IP software from 1992 and "modern" DNS Servers? Is this known to work?
Thanks.

I set up my own DNS server (dnsmasq) on my raspberry Pi that sits on the local network, and reconfigured the Mac's TCP/IP to use the Pi as its DNS server.
Now surfing the web in Netscape on my vintage mac!! (Of course most sites don't render anymore but www.loband.org is a godsend!)
