| Will a IIx accept this RAM? |

I bought some 1MB SIMMs a little while back but the IIx just sad macs, so I figured I might as well check here. 4x16MB SIMMs. I know I'll need either Mode32 or a IIsi ROM to use them, but other than that, are these compatible? Can I just stick the existing 4x1MB in Bank B?

For 4mb and larger SIMMs they need to be special PAL SIMMs but for 1 and 2MB anything should work,

Well, looks like maxing out the IIx is outside my budget at this point due to how expensive those PAL SIMMs are. I'd like to get it to at least 16MB or so, so these should work, right?

Also, is there a place that has more technical info on these PAL SIMMs, and what makes them necessary?
Edit: This ancient bulletin board post suggests that one of the banks will allow normal non-PAL SIMMs. Is this true?

I have a large number of 2mb PAL SIMMs here if you want to shoot me a message. Just be aware that there are other things in a Mac II that can cause the chimes of death/ a Sad Mac. The problem might not be your RAM.
You’ve got those SIMMs installed right, have you, in a single bank of four identical pieces? Tried both banks, one at a time?

I put in the 4 sticks I got off eBay into bank A, which normally holds the 4MB this machine reliably boots with, and it sad macs; they're 3-chip SIMMs, and I've read here that the IIx doesn't much like those.
The slots are all fine; there's one chip out of the original 8 that is loose in whatever slot I put it in, and so it sad macs unless I'm applying pressure on it to the right.
I *could* temporarily cannibalize RAM from the SE/30, since I can just put normal big SIMMs in it later (I want to get at least 8MB in so I can run A/UX).

It does not state they are PAL SIMMs and since the Mac II is not listed (uses same type as the IIx) I bet they won't work.
