Macintosh Portable replacement battery
Posted by: falen5 on 2019-03-06 10:01:43
Trying to find a good replacement to fit inside the old battery casing.

Cant find one that fits

Found loads that fit but are 3 amp , 2 amp. It has to be a 6volt and 5 amp ?

Anyone got a suggestion to one that will work and fits in the original battery case?

This is what I used. Basically a direct replacement:

Let me know how it goes. I ordered one that was 6A, 5AH...and apparently it did not have enough effective peak voltage (how quickly it discharges) to run the machine...so they are not all the same. I do hope it works for you...it was difficult for me to figure out.

Heres what i used LaPorta

And i have been running the machine for 3 hours. Hard drive running, contrast at full , sound at full - running apple analytics , benchmark tests - trying to load the battery

Ran it for 20 min - battery level drops, plugged in charger, charging began - charging got to 100% and the charging icon disappeared.

After 3 hours , removed the battery to check for heat , or anything crazy

All seems good. Battery was stone cold!!

Happy so far.

Heres a link to the battery on ebay.

The Portable appears to be functioning perfectly.

Here's my crude attempt.

Has any one looked toward using Lithium Ion motor cycle battery.  Similar to this LFX18L2-BS06  https://shoraipower.com/lfx18l2-bs06-p98

I think this one is just a tad big.  But these compared to AGM are much lighter and provide better power.

I had though on building a Li-on cell pack inside the case but need to research if any internal circuitry for cell protection is needed.

The only concern I have is if the power management in Mac Portable can cope with that type of battery for charging and powering it - I don't think so.
Cheers
