Can you use "any" SIMM ram.

Hello! I have recently got a dead Macintosh Classic working and am looking for things to make it run better. I have updated to System 7.1, but many of the programs I use need more ram than available (2MB). I have been looking around on eBay for 30 pin 1MB sticks of SIMM ram, but there are just so many types! I am no pro working with old computers, certainly not Macintoshes, so my question is: Can I use any kind of SIMM ram as long as it is 1MB and 30 pins? I have found some versions with 2 chips, 3 chips, 8 chips, and 9 chips and I just don't know the difference. Thank you!

Most types of 30 pin simms should work, though occasionally (rarely?) some macs will have difficulties with 2, 3, and 9 chip varieties; the 8 chip simms seem to be safest.  You're going to want two 1Mb 30 pin simms.

Make sure the speed matches on your pair as well (60ns, 70ns, 80ns, etc.) Sometimes ebay listings can be deceptively constructed.
