Plastic fasteners on Classic analog board sleeve
Posted by: LaPorta on 2019-02-15 19:45:47
Hi everyone,

You know those little black plastic rivet-type deals that hold on the Classic-series analog board outside white plastic sleeve? I want to know what they are and how to get some more for when I re-cap these things so I can re-attach the sleeve with the original fasteners.

I would like to know as well, my plus doesn't have them, rather its analogue board is held on with welded plastic, if I recall correctly.

That's interesting...every Plus I've seen uses the double sided foam tape. That I've found a replacement for.

Oh that's what it was, nevermind! Still, would be nice to have the fasteners.

I have a direct replacement for the foam if you need.

I just need the rivets!

Thank you!

That being said, double-sided foam tape is comparatively easy to come by, though hardly as elegant!

They are called nylon snap rivets.  Google that term, and you'll find a ton of different sizes.  I can't remember the exact size the compact Macs use.

Fabulous! Thank you!

What is the direct replacement you have found?  I'm just using 3M double sided adhesive. Appears to work well and didn't test as conductive but if there is something purpose built for this I'd rather go that route.

This stuff is majorly adhesive like the original, takes solvent to get the glue off. It is 1” wide like the original, and is 1/8” thick to maintain the original depth. Same sponge type as was there. It’s as close to the original as I’ve found.

In searching around I found this document: http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/apple/service/PN_072-0228_Apple_Service_Technical_Procedures_Macintosh_Family_Volume_One-Mar_1992.pdf

On page 390 in the pdf, a table refers to the diagram on the previous page; item no. 2, part number 830-0270 "Rivet, Nylon Snap-In, Black"

So that's what it was called internally anyway, maybe that will help! Nothing really comes up with a cursory google.

I just received these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/10x-Macintosh-128k-512k-Plus-Classic-SE-analog-board-Fasteners-Pushpin/264047221390

They appear to be very similar to the ones mentioned by @gpbonneau above.

The ones I bought (which ship from the Netherlands) worked great with my Plus, and you don't need to buy a hundred of them at once!
