Macintosh II ROM year program
Posted by: LaPorta on 2018-10-27 20:48:28
Does anyone know where to find a copy of the test program Apple made to test the Macintosh II ROMs for the RAM addressing defect? I’d like to test mine and see if it was ever upgraded.

Never heard of such a thing. You can also just look at the part numbers of the ROM chips to find out if they are the original Mac II ROMs or got upgraded to the newer ones along the way.

Mine say 87 and I’m assuming that they are original...but I read on a reference site that most were replaced during an Apple recall program for bugs in the ROM code, and a program was sent out to test for the defect. This was the defect that prevented more than 8 MB RAM being addresssd even with Mode32 and the like.

@LaPorta Do you have a Rominator yet?  Are you aware of the project?

I do not...but I am aware. I want to keep what I have, just figure which they are.

Are you talking about 32 bit addressing mode?
