Mac IIci NuBus Issues?
Posted by: IlikeTech on 2018-07-18 19:46:31
I am having weird symptoms on my IIci I just recapped.  It works just fine except it doesn't seem to detect the NuBus card I am trying to install.  I am trying to install a Radius Rocket, which I know works, because I have used it in another system.  It doesn't show up in tattletech, and fails to launch in rocketware.

Thanks!

I'd test the Rocket in the other computer again just to reestablish that baseline and some other NuBus cards in the IIci's slots before I blamed the IIci.

Try other Nubus cards, check for any damaged pins and lastly the voltage rails on the IIci PSU (the Rocket draws a lot more amps than any other nubus card, so might be failing because of a marginal PSU)

I put the rocket on a Quadra 650 logic board using the IIci psu and it was detected.  In the IIci it doesn’t show up at all.

Try something else like an ethernet card or a video card, make sure all the slots are good.

Also, was the IIci's power supply recapped?  It is very probable that the IIci's power supply has degraded to the point that it can't provide enough power to run the card.  The CPU on it runs all the time regardless if you're actually utilizing the card or not.  My IIci has a Radius Rocket, and the Rocket didn't show up until I replaced the power supply.  It was drawing too much power.

Sounds like he got that end covered by testing the IIci PSU in the 650? Wondering about the Q650, its relative power requirements and possible NuBus90 complications? Does that spec budget/provide more power to a slot?

Assuming the Q650 PSU has power to spare, test of the IIci with that unit would be a good box to check.

Nevermined people!  Thanks so much for your input tho.  I just hadn't cleaned carefully enough.  Cleaned around the NuBus chips, and It works fine!
