| Opening up a PowerBook 500 series AC Adapter (Model No M1893) |
Posted by: twillkickers on 2018-07-14 10:26:42 I am trying to open up an old PowerBook 500 series AC adapter to recap it. However I can't find any instructions online of how to open one. Has anybody opened up one before? Are there any screws under the sticker need to undo first, or should I just start trying to ply the plastic open at the divide? Thanks.

Posted by: twillkickers on 2018-07-14 11:31:11 I can confirm. Just peeled off the label and there were no screws under there. What tool did you use to get it open?

Posted by: twillkickers on 2018-10-29 10:00:25 Sorry for the late update. I basically destroyed the plastic getting it open. Still not entirely sure if there is a proper way. If someone has a good fix tutorial for these it would be appreciated!

I ended up reassembling the various plastic bits and wrapping the whole thing in duct tape. It has held up for years like that. A rotary tool of some sort may be a good solution though.

Posted by: OleLila on 2018-10-30 01:08:07 I opened one of these by drilling small holes and then used snap ring pliers, a small dental type pick, and a plastic pry bar. When the plastic wound't separate, I drilled another hole then scraped plastic out between the holes with the pick then separated with the pliers. Not pretty, a few gouges but not destroyed. I attempted a recap without success..its still not working, so I just used the cord on a toshiba power supply as described in a previous post. If you want the case, then message me...its about to end up in a box never to be seen again.
