| Virtual Memory on System 7.5.5 & System 7.0.1 |

Hi everyone!
I'm a very newbie about vintage Macs and I've recently picked up a Macintosh SE/30 with System 7.0.1 in German. I installed System 7.5.3 (then updated to 7.5.5) in English (I don't speak German...) in an new System Folder (clean install without having erased the hard disk).
Now, the Virtual Memory is working when I boot System 7.0.1, but is not working when I boot System 7.5.5. The Memory control panel says that the virtual memory will be activated after the reboot, but after every reboot, the Virtual Memory is not activated again.
At first I was thinking that the problem was some bad sector on the disk so I ran Lido 7, that remapped some bad sectors, and now the disk seems okay.
I tried disabling VM on 7.0.1 side, rebooting, etc., but the result is always the same: the VM will be activated after the next reboot... :-(.
The Mac has 20 MB RAM and MODE32 installed in both the System Folders (different versions, I presume; I installed MODE32 version 7.5 on 7.5.5 side, after having updated to 7.5.5).
Maybe I should have erased the volume before installing System 7.5? Can I fix Virtual Memory without reinstall System Software?
Another question is: what is the quicker way to switch between two different System Folders?

Is 32-bit memory addressing enabled in the Memory Control panel?

Hmm. I'm not entirely sure. Maybe a clean install will fix it?
You could also try RAM Doubler instead, I believe it does a better job than Apple's built in VM.

Thank you: before reinstalling I'll give it a try with RAM Doubler.
In the meantime more and more bad sectors are arising from the SE/30 old hard drive: maybe this is really this issue reason...

If you have more and more bad sectors showing up, then I would imagine the fault is with the drive itself.

RAM Doubler did the trick!
In any case, because the disk is getting worse and worse, I'm thinking about picking a SCSI2SD up. Have you any advice between versions V5, V5.1 and V6?

I haven't used anything past a V4, so I couldn't recommend one over another. Sorry.
