Hello,
So today I installed System 7.0 on my SE. Normally, I install System 7.0 using the 800k floppy version, but today I decided to use the System 7 Golden Master Release CD-ROM instead. The install was successful and much more convenient than the floppy install, however, I noticed in the "About this Macintosh" box that System is using 1.6 MB of RAM. In my experience, 7.0 usually only uses about 900 KB to 1 MB of RAM when I do the floppy install. Does the CD-ROM version add something extra that increases the memory consumption?

It's possible it would (but I haven't looked at this specific scenario), since there's more room to put extra stuff on the CD. There may have been any number of things, additional fonts, a full set of printer drivers, and ti's also possible a different install set (cmplete for all macs vs. complete for this mac or min for all/this mac) was selected.
You can reformat and reinstall (or delete the system folder and reinstall) or dig through the system folder and remove unnecessary extensions and control panels. You can open the system file itself and remove unused sounds and fonts, although I usually don't bother with that specific move.
