So I decided to give posting a CL ad a shot. Needless to say, it worked out pretty well for me.
Currently working out a deal for the following:
4 Powerbook 2400c (!) (1 working - 3 dead with the common fuse problem)
2 Powerbook 3400c (1 working)
2 Powerbook 190 (unknown working cond)
1 Powerbook 180c (unknown working cond)
2 Powerbook 1400c (1 working)
1 Powerbook 1400cs (working)
1 Powerbook G3 (both working)
2 Powerbook Bookendz (didn't mention which model, but for the G3s I think)
Accessories for all of the tested Powerbooks
Excited for this lot, this covers a bunch of the PBs I was missing. I don't know how much I have to pay just yet, but it will be very reasonable 🙂

Congratulations, that's quite a haul! CL wanted postings are definitely well worth it. I've snagged a bunch of very useful things that way and I think the same can be said for many folks on here.

I'd be interested in a GLOD-afflicted 2400c if you can get one going that far. My 2400c ist kaputt, but I'm pretty confident I could make one functional machine out of two, given the wherewithal. Plastics/ screen are of no concern.
Alternatively, if anyone has a spare 2400c logic board....

I’m impressed. I’ve checked CL a few times for vintage items, but didn’t think I would have any luck doing a WTB post out here in AR. Never know what you can find, but nice job on the acquisitions. That is a nice haul on the 2400c PBs, and also that 180c.Â

So it turns out that this was more stuff than I expected. The 1 PB 180c I thought was there was actually the following:
4 PB 180Â Â Â Â
3 PB 180c
1 Duo 2300c
1 PB 520C
1 PB 165
1 PB 100
We agreed on a price - everything mentioned above + in this post for around $300. It's pretty hefty in terms of price but I'm excited!

Collectively, that's a good price - good luck getting them up and running - some 'Books take a bit of coaxing, but you should get most running.

That explains the posts I see all the time on craigslist. "Wanted: old computer stuff" in various states.Â
Sadly though, I always thought that deterred people from posting a sales ad. they just see that, and then avoid posting on CL completely and do the deal direct. So people physically searching for sales dont find any postings.Â

I am noticing the same thing here. old computer/electronics postings are very very few and far between. But there are a couple wanted ads.Â
What I find interesting is there is a wanted ad out of knoxville for 1970s and earlier TVs.Â

This is probably the only time I've ever put up an wanted ad on cl really, I used to be more active on freecycle back when it was easier to do so. Postings here have been slim.
Haven't gotten this stuff yet as I need to find a time to get it all, but it turns out that all this stuff was actually from a local professor/collector who passed away unfortunately.Â

2 Powerbook G3 "Kanga" (both working with max RAM, one has some bad plastic damage though)
1 PowerBook 100
1 PowerBook 165c (working)
4 PowerBook 180 (3 don't seem to be working right now, 1 works great with max ram)
3 PowerBook 180c (2 working, both with max RAM)
1 PowerBook 540c
1 PowerBook 1400c + BookEndz
1 PowerBook 1400cs
1 PowerBook Duo 2300c
5 PowerBook 2400c/180 (1 working with NewerTech G3 upgrade, 4 nonworking + a bunch of extras (3 floppy drives, 1 2400c BookEndz, 1 additional uninstalled NewerTech G3 upgrade, lots of cards). 1 was disassembled when I got it)
1 PowerBook 2400c/240 (Japanese version, works but has a dead HD)
2 PowerBook 3400c
I will be coming back later in the summer- they also had a box of about 20 Newtons (!), a small tub of Newton-related accessories and software, several boxed PowerBook G4s, 2 more boxed PowerBook 1400cs, and "several more 68k desktops".
Letting go of this much money at once hurt a bit, but I really can't complain with what I got!

Suffice to say, sold it last year, but what you got was a steal. Congratulations, sir. It only hurts temporarily, until you realize what a gold mine you picked up 🙂

Collecting is only a gold mine if you sell them off at a profit , otherwise its $300 gone.
Most of the time you buy a huge lot of laptops there tends to be things wrong with them, which is why they get sold as a lot in the first place.
It is fun cleaning them up and making them work again and hopefully you won't have too many junk machines. Finding parts to make them work could be costly and I am sure you figured that out when pricing the lot.
