a nice clamshell
Posted by: TechEdison on 2018-03-11 18:55:00
Got this from a good friend of mine for free. No power adapter, so i dont know the specs (or if it even works), but it looks to be in decent shape!

Missing the leaf, but aren't they all? Haha.

If i were to be real picky, I would get a new front bezel (part near the apple is cracked) and a leaf, but my iBook line isn't exactly the cleanest so I don't care all that much.

Now i have all 3 🙂 g3, g3 snow, g4

Cool!

Nice clamshell.  I have one, but when I got it the CD drive latch was broken.  25 dollars on ebay later I had a complete clamshell!

If you want too, and can solder, the battery recell is super easy and my battery now lasts 4 to 4.5 hours!

Look in the battery bay. It should have the model number/speed listed iirc.

I had a Graphite 466. I used it about five years and it served me well.

The clam shells were pretty rugged compared the Wallstreet/Pismos.

Power supplies for these seem to be plentiful.

That's a nice example!

I bought mine new, and I used it until it fell apart pretty much. I was sad when that happened 🙁

By the way, aside from hard disk, all tangerine (orange) and blueberry (turquoise) iBooks have 32 MB of built-in RAM and a 300 MHz CPU.

Indeed! Can you do this for me? I have a drawer full of batteries I just got, and most of them seem to have at least a few good cells....

Or I could do it myself, I guess....

I was disappointed when I tried my G3 snow adapter.. Then I remembered "ah ye... Apple made these not fit".

Highly odd, but that's just what ya get with apple haha.

Yeah, I think everything else is the same (same voltage, amperage, polarity), but they made the plug slightly smaller. Dumb!

That being said, I guess one could theoretically splice the plug form an older adapter (perhaps one that died somehow) onto a newer adapter.

Maybe!  Shoot me a PM!
Will do! Thanks!!

As CC said, I just cut and spliced the tip from my broken yoyo onto an old snow adapter and it works great!

Yea the issue I have is that I don't have a yoyo adapter. I'll probably pick one up on ebay at some point.

What's the model/part # of the adapter you want/need? I have one that (I think) came with a Bronze G3 PowerBook that had a drinking problem (in that its owner thought they should make it drink a latte). As far as I know, it (the adapter, not the G3) works, but I'm not sure it's the same specs as the iBook's AC adapter. I'll check the PN tonight.

Be careful with those yo-yos, because they made them with two different size plugs. The Titanium G4 initially shipped with a Yo-Yo but its adapter has the same smaller-diameter plug as the later square adapters that were also used on the Snow iBooks. (I have an adapter like that buried in the garage somewhere. It gets scary hot if you plug it into a later, faster PowerBook G4, which isn't surprising because it was technically underspec'ed even for the 400/500s it shipped with.) So... wait, what was my point?... oh, yeah, make sure you get one with the right size plug, just being a Yo-Yo isn't enough.

This might be helpful: the yo-yos meant for the Titanium G4s had a black cable between the smaller plug and main part, based on my limited research (I was looking out of curiosity to see if they were still plentiful and cheap. Fortunately, they are!)
