Do Mac LC III need recapping?
Posted by: xboxown on 2018-03-08 14:48:51
   Hello,

I am just wondering if Mac LC III need recapping? I understood from couple of websites that they do not leak and don't need recapping. Is that true?

Does it have regular caps? (As in, not tants?)

Then yes. Recap. They may not leak, but even if they don't leak they still will not have the values they should. They are just old, and have to be replaced.

Pretty sure all the LCs had regular caps...? Better to recap than not.

Recap it, it's the best thing to do with a pre 1995 Macintosh, especially with an LC

I'm not an expert but I have a Mac LC III and something leaked in the immediate vicinity of the capacitors so unless an insect got inside the case and lifted its legs to relieve itself next to each of the capacitors, I suspect the capacitors may, in fact,  have leaked.

* Sob * I love my Mac LC III! IT IS MY FAVORITE MAC 68K MODEL EVER!!!!!! By the way the motherboard is sooooo clean, so beautiful...so shining! I think recapping might be an option for me. While I am at it..I am going to ask the guy who is recapping it to replace the battery with a non-leaking battery so I don't have to worry of a leakage battery if i keep my mac lc III offline for a while. Or worst case if that is unavoidable I will have the battery case external..outside the case the case so no damage can be made into the motherboard.

Anything from the 475 and earlier need recapped. Even the LC5XX does as well.
