| Differences between Lisa 2 models |
Posted by: megabyte on 2015-11-24 12:57:49 Hi.
I recently found a Lisa 2 at Moscow - http://www.vintageapple.ru/#!product/prd12/1930604025/apple-lisa-1984- and want to buy it 🙂
Looks like it is a Sun Remarketing version of it. May be it's a stupid question, but is there any software/hardware differences between original Lisa 2, Macintosh XL and Sun Remarketing's one?
Or all of them are same computer with a various labels?
Is it possible to run original Lisa operation system on this machine?
Thanks

Posted by: aplmak on 2015-11-24 20:26:41 I've seen those pictures before on an ebay listing a few times... same pics.. Just be careful.. Not sure if it is legit.. The sun remarketing had their own scsi board with drive (as seen in the pic).. and you should be able to run Lisa OS if it has compatible ROM chips.. It should.. But I don't have any Sun machines myself.. I have regular Lisa 2's all 2/10's... Luckily I have two with working widget drives.. I try to power them up now and then to keep them lubricated.. and I recapped the 4 capacitors on the widget boards..Â

Posted by: lisa2 on 2015-11-25 08:57:04 The Lisa 2 pictured at that site has the screen mod ROMs (3A) and will not run the LisaOS as it sits. Â There is no such thing as a "SUN" system, sun sold some upgrades (hardware and software), but nothing sun did makes a Lisa any less a of a Lisa. Â
like aplmak, I too see lots of discrepancies in the photos on that Russian site...Â

Posted by: aplmak on 2015-11-25 10:12:47 Rick.. sorry I meant I don't have any "Sun" modified machines... They are just straight Lisa 2's that never were in the Sun Remarketing batches... lol.. 🙂 Sun re-sold Lisa 2's after Apple got rid of them... they continued to upgrade and swap out parts..
