I helped them pull the hard drive, and they took it to get data off of it. I took it home, and with a little testing determined that there was nothing wrong with it and it just needed a clean install. I suspect that it had never had that happen. I informed the person that there was nothing wrong with it, but they had already got a new laptop, so I got to keep it. For the price of an SSD and the upgrade from 4 to 6GBs of memory. I have a very good laptop running High Sierra!
I still can't believe that someone gave me a free, working, 500 dollar laptop!!!
It is now my daily driver and I am very happy with it. In fact, I am writing this post from it. The only thing I will need to do at some point is replace the battery because it is getting a bit old. It lasts about an hour and a half now.
