PowerBook 3400 - battery dead!? what have I done!?
Posted by: AlpineRaven on 2017-12-16 02:52:09
Evening All,

What have I done!?

Been working on this PB3400 and got it going about a week ago, I had 2 good batteries, one is New Old Stock battery, and another one that had VERY good charge, this week I was using it flattening it to charge it and this morning after using it for 2 hours I allowed the battery nearly flat - now it won't charge. New Old Stock battery - I was using it for an hour half - now it won't charge (this week I had been charging and half discharge etc).
Ive tried re-set the PRAM, tried reset from the rear button for 1 minute etc... Swapped over the DC board - no change. Swapped over 3 different chargers (original PB3400 PSU, PBG3 PSUs 2x)

What have I done?

Am I able to force charge from external power supply (modify the station) to put a bit of juice in and try charge it again in PB3400?
Cheers

If I replace the cells to new one - would I have a good chance for the battery to be working again? or its bricked?

Cheers

It seems odd that both went out at the same time. Could it be software-related, I wonder?

There is a utility called My Battery that gives a modicum of information, a little like Coconut Battery in OSX. You could try that.

I cannot seem to find it - where can it be found?

I probably found it on one of the Hotline servers, but that was some years ago. Can’t remember now.

if you pm me your email, I may be able to dig it out.
