Floppy with an X
Posted by: mindingulove on 2017-12-13 14:01:50
Hello everyone, I would like some advices before buying a Macintosh Plus.

The Macintosh plus im looking forward into buying boots straight to the floppy with an X icon even though it has no floppy media.

Wasn't it suppose to boot into the flashing question mark icon?

thank you

Yes should. My guess is that the floppy drive should be cleaned and needs lubricant

The X normally appears when corrupt floppy disks are inserted. The Macintosh Plus needs a floppy disk with a Mac OS to boot from -without it, the problem you described will occur. It is indicating that no floppy is inside the machine. Before inserting ANY FLOPPY and further troubleshooting, you should clean and lubricate the drive. Without this, the drive may damage itself and will not read disks very accurately.

I would recommend following a tutorial such as the one below that covers repairing 400k Macintosh floppy drives.

Thank you everyone, I guess both are right.

I asked the seller to remove the floppy cable and it boots with the question mark in it  It . must be very dirty and the sensor thinks there is a floppy. I will follow  David advice and will clean it before inserting any disk.
