been doing some bit of research
looks like all i need to do is replace my video card, from a hardware point of view.

Yes, this loader avoids chamaleon use with modded DSDT and sleep/sound/pstate problems.
So very good news for MacPro 2006-2007 users.
Asso, it seems that 7300GT is usable under mavericks now ! (reported in forum link) I like my 7300GT it does everything i need and want!
if i don't have to replace it, that would be AWESOME!

I would just get a cheap lower end PC card, a while back i installed a pc AMD 6670 into my dads '09 mac pro, works fine after adding the correct device id's into the drivers (however you won't see anything untill you get to the log on screen)

I would suppose an ATI Radeon HD 2600 from an '08 Mac Pro would work okay in there as well (and assuming the hardware is compatible, there would be no worries about software incompatibilities).
In fact, from what I've seen, the only formidable obstacle is Mavericks' need for a 64-bit EFI (the hardware seems more than capable of supporting it otherwise).
If I had such a machine, I'd probably be playing around with it so as to confirm my statement.

there is a homebrew bootloader for OS X 10.91. following those steps to make an install drive

2. replace boot.efi
boot.efi can be found at System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi and usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi
3.insert your board-id into OSInstall.mpkg(please google it)
4.insert your board-id into InstallableMachine.plist(please google it)
5.reboot from the usb drive.

this is a native efi32 bootloader, instead of a CSM loader
it built a thunk between EFI64 and EFI32, forwarding EFI64 call from kernel to EFI32 firmware.
so those programs using EFI runtime services, such as bless, nvram will be run without any problem.
this is a full version bootloader, hibernation, filevault2 are also supported out of box.

I'd imagine it's pretty much the same as for the AMD cards, which is just adding your card's device id to the driver in macos

So, when you install OS X it copies over this new boot.efi and you will never need to patch Mavericks manually (it's fine with 10.9.1 but apparently the beta of 10.9.2 does alter it, but no hassles at present)
