| By far one of the biggest trades I've ever made! |
Posted by: JRL on 2014-02-03 19:43:20 Long story short, I'm getting the following via a trade on AppleFritter for my original Rev 0 Apple II board:
Mint NeXTCube system, fully working
IIfx (128 MB RAM, standard complement of cards)
IIfx (victim of battery explosion, otherwise intact)
Apple IIGS ROM 3 with AE PC Transporter
Plus some more goodies - we're still working out what to add onto the items listed above. Still, I am pumped!

What are you going to do with the battery damaged IIfx?
That's a very great find!!!!
I must admit I'm a little jealous π

Posted by: JRL1511844959 on 2014-02-03 20:52:30 @CC: Probably going to make an attempt at fixing the damaged board. Apparently it's not too bad.
@TMG: Yup, it's #1156. I couldn't test it though, but I am mailing it to the other party in the trade first so he can try it.
I received a ton of offers for the board (including some hefty cash offers) on AF, but I really wanted to trade the board foremost.

@CC: Probably going to make an attempt at fixing the damaged board. Apparently it's not too bad. That's good. I'm curious, since you have two, are you going to keep this one once it's repaired? If you do decide to sell it, I might be interested if the price is right.
Otherwise, it's probably a good source of spare parts for your better one.

p.s. I forgot to mention this earlier: 128 MB of RAM is spectacular! Most, it seems, can't get more than 32 MB without breaking the bank, given the rarity of the SIMMs.
I wonder what an Apple I board would get? (hypothetically speaking, of course π ).

Posted by: haplain on 2014-02-05 11:09:48 What kind of shape is your Cube in? Sounds to me like you got the better end of this deal, well done. I watched a Rev. 0 working Apple II, with 2x disk drives, 2x joysticks sell for ~659 6 weeks ago. The auction ended on a Friday night at 1AM so I believe that's why it was so cheap but yeah regardless your getting a screaming deal. I've been watching NeXT Cubes go for 750-1450 over the past few weeks so that alone is well worth it! Please post some photos of your Cube once you receive it.
Also, do you have a keyboard/mouse, and display? Without those, your just going to be able to look at the Cube.

Posted by: JRL1511844959 on 2014-02-05 11:21:02 @CC = I would definitely be open to trading/selling it. However, it's up in the air - I haven't actually examined the damage yet.
@Hap = It's in nice condition all around, but it does have some minor wear signs on the back from use (it came from UC Berkeley). It's a complete '040 system with the monitor, KB, and mouse.

Posted by: haplain on 2014-02-05 11:24:07 Your making out like a thief in the night then, WELL DONE indeed! I love it. That's cool it came from Bizerkely too. If you ever need anything NeXT related Rob Blessin at BlackHole Inc is your man. Do you know if has a MO drive, or anything else like that?

@CC = I would definitely be open to trading/selling it. However, it's up in the air - I haven't actually examined the damage yet. OK. If it proves to be beyond repair, I'd be interested in at least the case/drives/etc., so it doesn't have to work for me to be interested.
If you'd rather wait and see if you can repair it (and get some extra money out of it), though, that's fine. I'm not trying to push (much π )
Off the wall question: when do you get back from wherever it is that you are?

Posted by: JRL1511844959 on 2014-02-06 12:17:44 @Hap: Thanks man! I actually got an offer of over $1500 from another person for the rev 0 board (it's a fairly early serial #), but I felt that the money wasn't as important as getting stuff that would never show up in the wild for me.
I've heard of Black Hole for a while - I will have to check it out.
I don't think it has a MO.
@CC: I'm in school right now (I got to U of I) so I won't be able to get back home until late March.
