| MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT |
Posted by: Performa450 on 2015-11-17 00:09:06 Latest addition to my collection! Unfortunately purchased slightly too late from a recycler, the smashed screen, surround and drives had been disposed of but the (sold as working) rest of the system was all there... but fully dismantled. All looks the part though, boards are green with extra wires soldered on in places and it has a few DVT stickers and "sample" markings on the fans (much like the one on eBay at the moment for $700 but a lot cheaper 🙂 ). Something to gently reassemble over the next few days!

Posted by: Performa450 on 2023-04-24 09:30:36 Now, I thought I did document this on here, but clearly not! |
Posted by: Performa450 on 2023-04-24 09:36:55 Ended up taking around 3 or 4 months to get the correct display for it. Also managed to source a (comestically damaged, but new) battery for it a couple of years ago. |
Posted by: Performa450 on 2023-04-24 09:37:29 Rebuild complete! (This is also on MacRumors, somewhere) |
Posted by: Performa450 on 2023-04-24 09:38:45 I actually need to strip it down again, as it has developed the old whiny fans problem that these machines had. |
Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2023-04-24 09:40:25 Oh boy, not the fans... My early 2008 15 inch has developed a BAD one. First started grinding shortly after I bought it in 2017 and then I fixed it for a while with some oil. Now it's back. |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2023-04-25 02:26:47 I loved my 2006 17". One machine I wish I had kept. |

I loved my 2006 17". One machine I wish I had kept. Yeah I had a 2006 15” (but Core 2 Duo) - such an upgrade from the 17” G4. The rate of progress seemed much quicker in the 00’s, I was keeping machines for around 3 years then. I retired my 2012 15” a little over a year ago. |
Posted by: CC_333 on 2023-04-26 23:14:30 I had a Late 2006 MacBook (2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD), and it chugged along quite nicely for a few years.
I finally retired it sometime between 2010-2013, and then I dismantled it to restore and upgrade it, and never got around to putting it back together.
I have the parts for it scattered around somewhere....
