PowerBook G4 5,2 - suddenly slow surfing!
Posted by: Hotdog Zanzibar on 2014-01-30 11:48:01
My 1.25GHz PowerBook G4 has been running pretty well since I acquired it -- it's going to eventually need a new HD, but suddenly a new issue has popped up. If I go to google.com or any site that connects to google in any way, the page takes FOREVER to load.

I made sure AdBlock didn't have any filters up, I re-set Safari (Camino just stops waiting for the page to answer), I've zapped the PRAM, cycled the power manager, etc. ... my next step is to reinstall Leopard completely, but before I do I wanted to run it by you guys.

My DNS numbers haven't changed, either. That's the only other thing I can think of...

What does Activity Monitor say?

You have definitely cleaned out the disk caches for your web browsers and confirmed that you have free disk space?

If it's simply networking, you can run a traceroute to see where the slowdown is. It could be as boring as a bad route at your provider.

Or a cache server going nuts. Hate those things.

Yep, I reset Safari, wiped the cahce, etc ... same with Camino. Plenty of free space on the drive -- about 30gb.

Haven't checked Activity Monitor yet -- will try that tonight, I think.

How do I do the traceroute? (networking noob, I am)

By the way, this isn't happening on any of my other Macs, including my iPhone...
