XRAID

Picked up a couple of XRAIDs. Couldn’t resist, they had 14 500gb ATA drives each. I bought them for the drives but I may try getting one going. I do have some Fibre Channel cards and cables.

PowerPC or Intel?

The XRAIDs are RAID arrays. I have some pci Fibre Channel cards so I'd likely try with a MDD or maybea G5. I have 3 G4 Xserves so I could also use one of them .

They're still perfectly good, aren't they?  I seem them for pretty cheap.  I mean... what's changed over the past few years other than HDD capacity?

They are good, except that 750 gig PATA disks are expensive and rather old, so it isn't worth the money.

On the other hand, the controllers will support drives up to 2 TB. I tested drives using IDE-SATA adapters and they worked fine. I even upgraded an XRAID from 500 gig disks to new 1 TB 2.5" SATA drives for a client because they did not have the money for a new chassis and it's been running fine for a couple of years now.

They would be cool just for the drives (if they didn't have too many hours on them) if the units are cheap enough.
