Is the Apple /// Clock Kit Upgrade needed?
Posted by: krye on 2014-01-15 10:18:23
As far as I can tell, my new Apple /// does not have the clock upgrade kit installed. There is no AA battery pack under the hood. The kits are on eBay now for only $10 bucks. Should I go for it? Is it a nice to have, or is there a fundamental reason why someone would need to swap out the clock chip an add the battery pack?

I did not get one, and the idea of having a battery in there scares me all the more. I don't see needing it.

Mine already had the upgrade in it but I don't keep the AA batteries installed.

It's useful if you want SOS to date-stamp your files. A few pieces of business software also offered options that could use the clock chip, such as calendar and reminder functions. Other than that, it's not necessary.
