PowerMac G3 B&W Boot Problems
Posted by: Zingo2000 on 2014-01-07 11:09:43
I recently bought a Power Mac G3 Blue and White.

It was no os on the hdd so I wounder if I could copy the files for os 9 to a usb key in windows,if i can this, how would i do?

I cant boot inte the Open firmware.

I tried boot to the open firmware with CTRL+Command+O+F but it didn't work.

The keyboard i used was a Apple Design Keyboard (ADB) and the mouse was a Apple Desktop Mouse.

The hdd is 80 gb and the video card is a Ati Rage 128

Needs to be a Mac bootable volume. Not gonna work off windows. Suggest eBay for a cheap OS 8 or 9 disk.

Open firmware is great but if he has no OS he won't get anywhere with that anyway. A system disk will help to tell if hard drive is dead and or install something to boot from.

"Obtain" a retail install CD of OS 9 which will sort out your issues.

Well, to start you need a OS 8/9 disk. AFAIK, the first New World Macs couldn't boot via USB. They can boot via FireWire, but I have heard OS 9 and earlier is cranky doing so, if it does at all. Get ahold of an OS 8/9 disk, pop it in the tray, reboot holding the C-key.

Can the G3 boot from network and is it posible to setup a server that the computer can boot from?

Just get an OS cd. You may be able to net boot I am. It sure but you still need an installer or good system file for the Mac to run.
