| ATI Radeon 7500 and Mac OS 9.2 |
Posted by: sega dude on 2015-11-09 13:43:43 My G4 Sawtooth came with an ATI Radeon 7500 in it. After updating to 9.2.1 from 9.1, the machine freezes at the desktop unless I disable all ATI extensions. I need those extensions since I have an ATI Radeon 7500. I went looking for a driver for this card, but I can't seem to find one anywhere. This make no mention of supporting the Radeon 7500, only the Radeon 7000, and those are the last mac drives ATI released. How can I get my ATI Radeon 7500 working under Mac OS 9.2.x?

Posted by: sega dude on 2015-11-09 15:41:38 I didn't, but I don't see any mention of the Radeon 7500 on that page. Will the Radeon 7000 driver work?

These drivers should work.

Posted by: sega dude on 2015-11-09 18:38:53 I seemed to have fixed the problem. I updated from 9.2.1 to 9.2.2 with the all of the ATI extensions turned off. After successfully upgrading to 9.2.2, I re-enabled all of the ATI extensions (with the exception of the Rage 128 accelerator) and it now boots to the desktop without freezing. Should I update the drivers anyway?

Posted by: supernova777 on 2015-12-28 16:27:16 do yourself a favour + just get an 8500.. the 7000 series radeons are buggy as hell with os 9 whereas the 8500 + 9000 are perfect + never have an issue.
i doubt your sawtooth was shipped from the factory wih a 7500...if it was it must have been a custom BTO option? because every other sawtooth i have ever seen has been shipped with a Rage 128 Pro AGP.
honestly save yourself the trouble + dont try to get it to work. because even if u get it to work - soon as u reinstall the os unless u are installing X or higher it will always give u problems.. + wierdness.
i had hte same problem.. and it drove me nuts for a few days untill i said eff this and yanked the card out. put back the regular ati rage 128 agp and all was normal again.
the 8500 radeon will never give u a problem at all. thats the best card for os9 imho.
