| Help! CD is Locked (System 6) |
Posted by: Tempest on 2013-12-22 16:43:12 I just reinstalled System 6.0.8 on my Mac Classic and everything seems to be working just fine, but when I try to read a CD (with all my games on it) I get the message "Please unlock the disk "Games" and try again. The desktop file couldn't be created.". Any idea what could be causing this? I'm burning the CD on my OS X laptop, but I've done this before and it worked just fine as long as I selected HFS.

Posted by: CelGen on 2013-12-23 11:08:25 It almost seems like your driver thinks it's an MO drive and not a CD-ROM. Normally it wouldn't even bother with a desktop file. What driver are you using?

Posted by: gobabushka on 2013-12-23 11:20:51 you might not have the high sierra extension in there?

Posted by: protocol7 on 2013-12-23 18:23:11 For System 6, you need to install the Desktop Manager 2.0.1 update to handle read-only media like CDROM.

Posted by: Tempest on 2013-12-23 19:54:54 I'll try that program and see if that works. I can't recall what I'm using now (CDTools or something like that).

Posted by: protocol7 on 2013-12-24 05:50:25 It's not a program, just an extension. It stops the system trying to create/update the desktop database on read-only volumes. You still need a driver of some kind for your CD drive.
If you're using a non-Apple drive I had pretty good success with the freeware CD Sunrise driver. I think it handled everything except CD Audio.

Posted by: Scott Baret on 2013-12-25 13:08:26 You can use CD-ROM Toolkit 1.x under System 6. It's commercial and will need to be purchased from a vendor, but it works very well, even with newer drives. I used it on a Plus with 6.0.8 and an Apple CD300e.
